Lewes Operatic Society has now become LOS Musical Theatre.

Following a survey of our members and in-keeping with other similar societies, it was decided by a majority to refresh our status in the Lewes community and update our name. We chose to maintain our heritage by keeping the ‘LOS’ abbreviation, whilst looking to the future by adding the more apt ‘Musical Theatre’.  With over 100 years of productions behind us, we are confident that LOS Musical Theatre will maintain the high quality performances of the past.

We have been bringing high quality musical theatre to Lewes since 1911. Staging our productions involves a lot of hard work for a cast and crew of about 80. In fact, LOS is made up of about 200 members of all ages and from all walks of life. We stage two productions each year, usually at Lewes Town Hall. In the past we have also toured local villages and we even take shows to our twin towns of Blois in France and Waldshut in Germany. The society often puts on concerts and performs at functions too.

Recent shows have included Grease, My Fair Lady, Follies, Chess, Into The Woods, Gypsy, Made In Dagenham the Musical, Oliver!, The Producers, Anything Goes and Oh What A Lovely War.

New members are always welcome! Besides performing, there’s lots to do behind the scenes and loads of social events throughout the year – trips to see West End shows, country walks with pub lunches, stoolball and dwyle-flunking matches, summer garden parties, a Christmas dinner-dance, quiz nights etc.. There is a cheap members’ bar (or even a members’ cheap bar) and regular news letters.

So, whether or not you are a seasoned performer there is something in LOS Musical Theatre for you
