Bugsy Malone

Lewes Operatic Society are delighted to present, for the first production of our second century, a new generation of talent in our first ever production featuring an all-child cast.

Bugsy Malone is a fast paced, unsentimental and undeniably funny play adapted from Alan Parker’s popular 1970s film. Impressed by the enthusiasm of an army of amateur dramatists in freeze-framing the movie to adapt it for the theatre, Parker eventually wrote this enormously entertaining version for the stage in 1983.

Set in New York, 1929, this musical gangster story portrays a world of would-be hoodlums, showgirls and dreamers….all of whom are played by children. Aided by an arsenal of splurge guns, great gags and period costumes – not to mention Paul Williams’ unforgettable songs – Bugsy’s a blast, however old you are!
